Gwen Stefani

She may claim in her lyrics to be "just a girl," but we know Gwen Stefani is much more than that. Her beguiling combination of punk rocker and pin-up girl has made her an alt-rock superstar and paved the way for a new wave of self-expression in fashion and music. If you want to spice up your style and you have at least chin-length, layered hair, follow these steps from celebrity stylist John Sahag to get this funky look yourself.

Step 1: Towel dry clean hair so that it is damp but not wet. Using a spray-on "lift" product, apply liberally (25-30 sprays) to the entire head, then comb through to assure an even application.

Step 2: Begin blow-drying the hair by turning the head upside down and brushing the hair in all directions until it is about 80 percent dry, focusing on the base. The hair should look full and messy.

Step 3: Flip the head back to continue styling. Begin to brush the hair in a downward motion from the crown. When the brush almost reaches the ends of the hair, turn it slightly up and out and continue to dry from underneath. The goal here is a deconstructed, messy half-flip not a full curl.
